Monday’s (22 April) sale saw 79 store cattle, four over 30-month cattle, nine calves, 183 sheep and 114 pigs go under the hammer. “Store cattle and calves remain in high demand, with the best cattle realising ÂŁ1,260,” said auctioneer Philip Mortimer from Frank Hill & Son. Limousin cross steers commanded the day’s top price, and averaged ÂŁ912 apiece, with Charolais cross heifers peaking at ÂŁ1,005 and averaging ÂŁ868.
Aberdeen Angus heifer calves averaged ÂŁ372, while OTM cattle peaked at 139p/kg and averaged 133.3p.
In the sheep lines, standard hoggets averaged 182.9p/kg, with medium spring lambs settling at 224.2p/kg and cull ewes at ÂŁ72.60. Cull sow values improved to average 67.4p/kg, with baconers at 102.3p/kg and gilts at 84.8p.
