More than 500 sheep went under the hammer at Monday’s (4 June) sale, along with 112 cast cows, prime cattle and dairy cows.
Hoggets averaged 141.1p/kg, and sold up to 159.4p/kg for a 48kg Texel. New season lambs peaked at 230.7p/kg for a 43kg Texel, with a market average of 207.9p/kg. Medium weights averaged 219.9p, with standard weights at 208.8p and heavy types at 188.6p/kg. Cast ewes reached a top of £117.50.
In the cattle ring, dairy cattle averaged £1,537 a head – a rise of £64 on the fortnight. Prime cattle sold to 232p/kg, with butchers’ stock averaging 220.5p/kg. Cast cows levelled at 151p/kg, with dairy cows at 115p/kg, over 30-month cattle 150p/kg and bulls at 128p/kg.
