Shropshire egg packer launches liquid egg

Oakland Farm Eggs in Shropshire has launched its own range of liquid egg called “Egg In An Instant”.

The company says it is made of 100% pasteurised British Lion eggs and contains an average of 10 whole eggs per half litre.

The liquid egg is said to last up to 21 days while unopened and three days after first use.

Available in half-litre and litre pack sizes, the cartons are similar to those used for fresh fruit juice.

Commenting in The Grocer magazine Oaklands technical director Elwyn Griffiths said “Egg In An Instant” was designed to take in a wider audience.

“With media reports suggesting consumers are eating more eggs than before, we wanted to make it easier for people to eat in,” he said.

Oaklands believes it could prove particularly popular with elderly people and students.

The idea behind the cartons is that retailers can store them in the chiller cabinets rather than in the home baking section.

The product is being launched at the International Food and Drink Exhibition, at London’s Excel Centre, which runs until 18 March.

It is expected to reach retailers’ shelves in April and will be available in free-range and non-free-range forms.
