Strong trade at Crymych sheep market
Crymych sheep market, Pembrokeshire Wednesday’s (16 November) sale saw 1,408 store lambs and 228 cull ewes go under the hammer at the new and expanded £750,000 market, opened just two months ago. Welsh Mountain cull ewes averaged £56.50 a head, and reached a top of £102, said Dyfan Davies, auctioneer at J J Morris.
Lamb values were £4 stronger on the week, due to the seasonal decline in numbers and improved fat lamb trade. Welsh Mountain store lambs sold to £75 a head, with Continentals peaking at £85 and all types averaging £66.50.
“We are getting towards the end of the season, but quality overall was pretty good,” said Mr Davies. “There were plenty of buyers, some of whom went home empty handed.”
