Tesco dairy centre of excellence to boost competition

Tesco says its new “dairy centre of excellence“, which opened last week, will encourage competition within the British dairy industry.

The research and development site is located at Liverpool University’s Park farm, the Wirral. It is the first time a retailer has formed such a unique alliance with a veterinary university.

The scheme brings together farmers, processors and industry experts to tackle a range of issues, including ways to help farmers deliver commercial benefits on farm consumer trends and product innovation animal welfare environmental best practice and milk quality.

The centre will build on Tesco’s existing initiatives, such as Local Choice milk and the Tesco Sustainable Dairy Group. A visitor centre is also planned.
