UK broiler sector sees further consolidation

The UK poultry sector has seen another bout of consolidation with poultry processor 2 Sisters Food Group acquiring three UK poultry businesses.

2 Sisters Food Group has added Fofar-based primary processor Joseph Mitchel (Letham) to its two existing primary processing operations in Scunthorpe and Flixton.

The company has also expanded its added value poultry division with purchase of Challenger Foods in Sunderland and Tulip’s Morecambe facility.

These two businesses already cook and roast poultry for the major retailer and food service markets.

Ranjit Singh, chief executive of 2 Sisters Food Group highlighted earlier today that the expanded division would have a combined turnover of £100m.

“These acquisitions fit with our strategy to broaden the poultry offering and geographic reach of our Group.”

He believes it will enable the Group to better serve its customers and offer an entry into niche markets such as Halal, wholesale, catering and independent butchers.

“In addition, it will allow us to provide consumers with more locally sourced products, thus helping us to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Mr Singh.
