United Biscuits’ clean sweep at FDF award
One of the UK’s best-known biscuit manufacturers took out the top honours at this week’s Food and Drink Federation (FDF) community partnership awards in central London.
United Biscuits, makers of Jaffa Cakes, Hula Hoops and McCoy’s crisps, won the inaugural FDF President’s award for their overall commitment to the community with judges citing their environmental work as one of the keys to their success.
In the other categories United Biscuits won a gold award for environmental work to make the company more sustainable, a silver award in health and well-being for making their products more healthy and a bronze award in workplace well-being for encouraging their 8000 strong workforce to look after themselves.
Other companies to do well on the day were Asdawhich won gold in the culture, media and sport category for its support of children’s sport and Coca Cola, which won gold for its Real Business Challenge program, encouraging students to develop business skills.
Greggs won gold in the health and wellbeing category for establishing 161 breakfast clubs across the country to help feed poor primary school children and General Mills, which produces Häagen-Dazs, received gold in the local community category for their youth bus program which has reduced crime and educated young people.
Unilever won gold in the workplace wellbeing category for their efforts to make employees healthier with their Fit Business scheme seeing 64% of employees noticing a positive improvement in their health due to the program.
