Welsh Assembly contemplates legal action against Dairygold
The Welsh Assembly Government is considering taking legal action to recover a £663,528 processing and marketing grant it awarded to Dairygold Food Products Ltd.
The money was allocated when the company purchased Aeron Valley Cheese Company at Felinfach near Lampeter in 2002, and was used to expand the number of packing lines from four to six.
The project was completed in March 2004, but operations closed in April 2006 with the loss of 115 jobs.
“Work has been on-going over the past months to recover the grant funding and we are considering all options open to us, including legal action,” said Carwyn Jones, the assembly’s rural affairs minister.
“We want a positive outcome for this and I want to reassure all concerned, including former workers at the plant, that while the process may take time its is still very much a priority.” ends
