YFC 2009: Cornish Young Farmers’ pedal for a good cause

More than 20 Cornish Young Farmers will be cycling from London to Blackpool to raise money for charity.

The group will ride from the Tower of London to Blackpool Tower, covering 400 miles in six days, arriving in Lancashire for the start of the National Federation of Young Farmers’ annual convention which begins on Friday May 1.

“We’re all pretty nervous – it’s a scary prospect, but we’ve been training hard,” says 25-year-old Cornwall YFC county chairman Nicola Chegwidden.

“We’re hoping that everyone has a good time – and it is for a good cause as we’re raising money for epilepsy care at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.”

The ‘Tower to Tower’ ride, which will involve pedalling 70-plus miles a day, is the latest of many epic fundraising initiatives culminating at the convention that Cornish Young Farmers have undertaken over the years.

Other counties have also seen the event as an opportunity to raise cash for good causes – such as Shropshire members (pictured) who got on their bikes to attend last year’s convention, cycling from their home country to the seaside resort.
