David Cotton, chairman of Dairy Pro, said the organisation was aiming to reach 1500 members by the end of the year.

“It’s about looking at professional skills in the dairy sector and getting people to do ongoing training and keep a record of it,” he said.

Mr Cotton said relief milkers in particular were reporting that the scheme helped to demonstrate to potential customers that they were keeping up-to-date with latest developments.

Students from Duchy College had also signed up as a way of building their CVs as they started off on their careers in agriculture.

“It shows that you are developing yourself and making yourself more employable,” he said.

Getting staff involved with Dairy Pro was also beneficial to employers as it demonstrated to people they you were taking an interest in their personal development which could help to attract better staff, he added.
