Livestock Event 2014: Wecan system rotovates and reseeds in one pass

Getting a good grass reseed can be surprisingly difficult. Slot seeders and overseeders can work well enough in most conditions but for some farmers the best thing is to start from scratch.
Hubert Elsworthy at Devon company Wecan reckons he has a good one-pass system for getting just that – without the need to plough first.
He has been bringing in Korean-made Wecan rotavators for six years and was showing a rotavator and seeder combination at the Livestock Event 2014 that has been showing good promise.

The 2.85m wide MGW/PGW rotavator shown here is aimed at farmers rather than contractors – there’s a bigger machine for them – and has a four-speed heavy-duty gearbox rated at 250hp.
The 16mm thick heavy-duty rotors spin at 500rpm and work down to 50-65mm, producing a fine tilth.
Right behind can go either five adjustable-depth pan-busting legs or a crumbler roller followed by a 500mm flat roller. Meanwhile, a set of Stocks Turbo Jet air-seeders blow the grass seed downwards.
The unit travels at 5.6-7.3kph and can cover 8-12ha in a day, says Mr Elsworthy. Cost of the whole thing is £16,500.
