Ballasting your tractor properly for the job in hand is one of those tasks that the boffins are always banging on about. However, in practice, there’s rarely the time to do it by the book… and wheel weights are awkward to deal with.

But French firm Althimasse reckons its rear weight block could make the job much simpler. There are 900kg and 1,500kg versions and you simply lift them up on the rear hitch. Each has a set of hooks for implements and, because they’re close-coupled, it should make implements stick out much more than they currently do.

They also come with a small stand for when they’re not in use. The cost of the two versions in France is 1,450 euros (£1,256) for the 900kg model and 2,250 euros (£1,956) for the 1,500kg one. There’s no UK importer at the moment, but the manufacturer says it’s looking for a UK agent.
