Sima: Claas Axion 800 update
Claas has finally updated its high horsepower Axion 800 tractors and given them the same aggressive styling as the rest of the fleet.
On show at Sima, Physically, they look pretty much identical to the flagship 900-series, but they pack a bit less muscle in the engine department.
The new 6.7-litre Fiat block pumps out 200 to 270hp, depending on the model you go for, and delivers 8% more torque than the old one.
This uses an SCR system to keep exhaust gasses in check and it’s so clean-burning Claas says it will meet the next round of emissions rules.
To transfer all that power to the ground, Claas has opted for the same semi-powershift box that’s fitted in the smaller Arion range. This has four mechanical ranges with six powershifts in each and there are various auto-shifting options, too. There will also be a CVT option at some point.
Like most other Claas tractors the 800 will be available in two spec levels – basic CIS models will have mechanical spools and a drivestick for changing gear, while high-tech CEBIS tractors will have a screen and button-laden joystick.
Prices will start at about £130,000 for the entry-level 820 CIS.
