AHDB funds training for Open Farm Sunday

Long-term Open Farm Sunday sponsor the AHDB is offering fully funded places for 20 farmers to undertake a tailored Countryside Education Visits Accreditation Scheme (Cevas) course in preparation for this year’s event.

The three-day accredited training is open to all beef, sheep and dairy levy-payers. Courses will take place in Leeds on 12, 13 and 25 March, and in Cambridge on 18, 19 and 26 March.

Designed for farmers opening their gates to the public for the first time, the course focuses on developing confidence in public engagement.

It aims to equip participants with communication skills, practical tools and structured planning to deliver safe and engaging on-farm experiences.

The training also supports farmers in explaining modern agriculture to non-farming audiences and planning activities that help visitors understand how food is produced.

Participants will leave with a clear plan for delivering a high-quality Open Farm Sunday event, supported by nationally recognised accreditation.

Open Farm Sunday manager Annabel Shackleton said: “These fully funded Cevas training places are a fabulous opportunity for newcomers to Open Farm Sunday to build their confidence and feel fully prepared to welcome the public on to their farms.

“Opening your gates for the first time can feel daunting, but with the right preparation and support it becomes an incredibly positive and rewarding experience.”

The initiative complements a wider package of support from Leaf, including webinars, one-day events and online resources for host farmers.

Open Farm Sunday marks its 20th anniversary on 7 June.
