BBC series to showcase hill farming challenges

The search is on to find three families who are interested in working on a hill farm as part of a BBC TV series.

The four-part BBC Two and BBC One Wales series will be shown next spring. It will also feature in BBC iPlayer.

Filming will take place at Welsh hill farmer Gareth Wyn Jones’s farm in Llanfairfechan in August.

The series, which has the working title The Family Farm, will be presented by Mr Jones and BBC wildlife presenter Kate Humble.

Producer Folk Films said it was looking for three families to take on the challenge of working on a hill farm, which includes the responsibility of managing livestock in the Carneddau mountains.

“We’re looking for families who are fired up and ready for a change from the usual routine,” said Charis Roberts, of Folk Films.

The cameras will follow life on farm as the families set up a home together in a purpose-built yurt camp and start taking full care of pigs, cattle, poultry and sheep.

No experience is necessary, but applicants must be prepared to face daily challenges which will test their skills and attitudes towards farming.

“This will be a test in a tough profession and a unique opportunity to realise your dreams and ambitions as a farmer and food producer,” said Ms Roberts.
