Britain’s Fittest Farmer: Enter your team for new event

With the first Britain’s Fittest Farmer qualifiers fast approaching on 10 June at Cereals, held at Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm, there is still time to enter Britain’s Fittest Farm Team event.

A brand-new addition to Farmers Weekly’s annual fitness challenge, the Farm Team event brings strength in numbers as four competitors go head-to-head in a series of more relaxed and fun challenges.

Teams must be made up of two women and two men who are involved in the agriculture industry and aged 18 or over.  You can sign up yourself and your friends now at fwi.co.uk/bff.

Cereals event visitors are encouraged to come and watch the action at stand 1184 on the north-east side of the site, near the crop plots and agronomy zones.

In time-honoured fashion, the Britain’s Fittest Farmer competition will also see entrants compete individually. More than 100 men and women in four categories will compete to take home the trophy and £1,000 each.

While Britain’s Fittest Farm Team offers a more accessible and social version of the challenge, designed for all abilities across the farming sector, it is possible to enter the individual and team competitions for a chance at scooping both titles.

Team tactics

Teams will face a series of strength and conditioning tests, including a deadlift challenge, a group worm workout and tug of war.

The deadlift event will see each competitor attempt a one-rep maximum lift, with combined team totals deciding the score.

Meanwhile, the worm workout challenges teams to complete as many rounds as possible of ground-to-overhead lifts, squats, burpees and shuttle runs using a weighted training tube known as the worm. Only the strongest teams will progress to the grand final in September.

Rutland farmer Dan Duffin has entered the Team competition alongside fellow local farmers and friends Kizzy Hunt, Leo McCourt and Rebecca Davenport.

Dan and Kizzy both competed individually in last year’s qualifiers at the Lincolnshire Show, with Kizzy progressing to the final at the Farmer’s Dog pub.

Dan says they were keen to return in 2026 as they both enjoyed the experience last year.

The group regularly train together, taking part in runs and fitness events including Hyrox and Tough Mudder.

Another team-based competition in the Lake District later this summer is already in the diary.

“We’re all into fitness and, being in the farming sector, we thought it would be a good bit of fun to give it a go,” says Dan.

He and Leo previously competed in tug of war at Young Farmers events, enjoying the team aspect of the sport.

“We’re quite competitive. I think we stand a good chance of winning, but equally there are some fit farmers out there,” he adds.
