Carmarthenshire cow rescued by firefighters

A cow that got stuck on an embankment near Talog in Carmarthenshire has been saved by firefighters from Carmarthen and Newcastle Emlyn Fire Stations following a complex rescue operation.

The cow became trapped on Wednesday (16 July) and it took the rescue team nearly five hours to free the animal, leaving the scene at midnight.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews had to use lines, small tools and machinery to free the animal, and eventually assisted it back up the embankment.

The cow was then assessed by the on-scene vet and left in their care.

The incident’s officer in command, station manager Emyr Jones, said: “Crews worked together well to free the animal and to assist it back up the embankment. 

“We’re pleased that the cow survived and was doing well in the care of the on-scene vet by the time the crews left.”

The owner of the cow also helped the rescue team and used machinery to assist.
