Charity Young Farmer bike ride to Blackpool raises thousands

Twenty five Young Farmers from Shropshire travelled the 115 miles from their county HQ to Blackpool on bikes.

The team set off from Shrewsbury early on Wednesday (30 April), covered 75 miles that day, then after an overnight stay completed the final 40 miles of the journey, arriving on Thursday.

The two-wheeled energetic team hope to raise more than £10,000 through their pedal power, with the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Severn Hospice benefiting from their efforts.

They were greeted at their destination by the National YFC president, Lionel Hill, and national chief executive, James Eckley.

“None of us were regular cyclists – but we all got stuck in,” says county chairman Gaz Davies. “I’m a regular at the convention – but this is the first time I’ve travelled there on a bicycle!

“It was a great sense of achievement and raised money for some great causes. Looking at the way fuel prices are going, I might well carry on cycling everywhere after this, too!”
