Could you be one of Farmers Weekly’s columnists?

Farmers Weekly is looking for new contributors to add to its stable of columnists – so if you can articulate your opinions clearly and concisely, this could be a great opportunity.
To be in with a shot, all you’ve got to do is choose one of the 10 titles below and send us a 500-word piece on it.

They are deliberately provocative titles – so obviously feel free to argue against the premise if you would like to. Whatever your view, though, we’re looking for hard-hitting, compelling (and possibly even humorous) contributions.
- The battle for equality in farming has been won
- An agricultural degree is pointless
- What I’d say to someone who pitched a tent in my field
- If I won the lottery I would carry on farming
- If I met Steve Reed, here’s what I’d tell him
- Devolution has failed Welsh farmers
- Farming should have an official retirement age
- Farmers should acknowledge their part in damaging Loch Neagh
- Environmental schemes won’t get traction in Scotland
- Why pedigree breed societies are fading into insignificance.
It’s certainly not a prerequisite that you have any writing experience, but to be considered you will need to be able to generate consistently thought-provoking pieces that strike a chord with farmers and their families.
We’re hoping to read entries from around the UK and from people of all ages – and are particularly keen to find some new talent among the under-30s.
In addition to the 500 words, please send us a little information about yourself, why you think you’d make a great columnist and a sense of the topics you’d potentially like to cover.
Please email your entries to farmersweekly@markallengroup.com by 16 August 2024.
