Couple get engaged through Farmers Weekly forum

A farming couple who met on Farmers Weekly‘s discussion forums have become the first members in the site’s six-year history to get engaged.

Clare (aka “farmerclare”), 42, and 41-year-old Steve (aka “henarar”) first got talking on FWispace in December 2012 when they both contributed to a forum thread about sheep. The conversation turned a bit cheeky when the pair got on to the subject of the size of a British Blue’s backside, much to the amusement of other forum members.

After three weeks of messaging the pair took the plunge and arranged to meet up in real life. Their first date was at Crickley Hill Country Park in Gloucestershire, where they had a walk and looked at the Belted Galloway cattle.

“We got on well straight away and had our first kiss there,” said Steve.

Over the next few months Clare went to visit Steve and his 100 head of suckler cows and calves and small herd of pedigree British Blues in the Blackdown Hills in Somerset. Steve also made the journey to Clare’s home in Warwickshire, where she keeps a small flock of Suffolk, Charolais and Black Welsh mountain sheep.

In July, just seven months after their first FWispace message, Steve popped the question. “I proposed while we were sitting together after we had a lovely day out at the beach, and she said yes thankfully.” he said.

The pair plan to “enjoy their engagement” before setting a date for the wedding.
