Dartmoor farmer stars in TV cookery show

Farmer Focus writer Mathew Cole will make an appearance in a top BBC cookery programme to be screened on Friday evening (28 October).

Mr Cole, who farms in partnership with his brother and parents in Devon, was filmed for an episode of Nigel Slater’s Simple Cooking.

The programme will be screened on BBC1 at 7.30pm.

The theme of the episode will be dishes that work thanks to their marriage of ingredients that have been born and bred together.

Nigel Slater visited Mr Cole and his brother Neil to explore the link between the land the animals have been born and bred on and the juicy flavour of their meat.

Mr Cole and his family farm 1,800 acres on and around Dartmoor.

They keep South Devon and Galloway suckler cows as well as Scotch and Swale ewes on the hills with mule lambs bred to sell.

They also have pedigree flocks of Bluefaced Leicester and Whiteface Dartmoor ewes.
