Farm-based business wins award

A firm launched by a Devon farmer’s wife has won a top award for its mail order catalogue and website.
Susie Cullen who founded kids’ outdoor clothing company, Muddy Puddles, was presented with her European Catalogue and Mail Order Award by Jenny Bond in London.
Voted best in its class by a panel of retail experts, Muddy Puddles was judged on its catalogue, website, customer service and business track record.
Susie started the business in 1995 as the farming business became less profitable, initially making waterproof clothing for kids on her sewing machine at home. The garments proved popular and the business grew from these humble beginnings.
The company, which now turns over more than £1m, is still run from the family farm in Devon.
“The whole team is over the moon with this award,” said Susie.
“This company is a terrific example of what can be achieved with a good idea, common sense and a great deal of determination,” commented one of the judges.
