Farm Chef recipe: Bonfire Night toffee apples

With Bonfire Night coming up Farmers Weekly’s Farm Chef Mary-Ann Beaty has come up with a recipe for toffee apples.
As well as being a sweet treat these toffee apples provide the perfect opportunity for children to let their imaginations run wild with the decorating.

Ingredients

6 wooden sticks
6 eating apples
400g dairy toffees
½ tsp vanilla extract
For the decorations
Popping candy, chocolate buttons, biscuit pieces, rock salt
Method
- Push the sticks about two-thirds of the way into the apples and place them on a baking tray on lightly greased foil
- Over a very low heat melt the toffees until smooth and stir in the vanilla
- Dip the apples in to the toffee mixture until covered. Decorate as desired
- Put in the fridge to harden until ready to serve
Mary-Ann Beaty farms with husband Adam on the Warwickshire/West Midlands border in partnership with Adam’s brother Tom and his wife Kate. It is a mixed farm with a contracting enterprise. They have two children – Charlie, who has just started a placement year at Claas UK, and Roo (Richard), who is doing an apprenticeship in digital marketing.
