Farmers Weekly delves into the archives and finds some things don’t change

Farmers Weekly has been delving back into the archives and has found some fascinating pictures and stories.
There are headlines from several decades ago that are eerily familiar – rocketing feed, feul and fertiliser bills for one. The adverts however are a little more unusual featuring some machines that have long-departed.
To give you a flavour we’ve set up a gallery featuring pictures from the
- 1950s,
- 1960s,
- 1970s
- and 1980s
Here are some extracts:
Is this story current or one from the past? It is actually from 1988 as you can tell from the figures in the chart. Who fancies red diesel at 10p/litre?
If the reminder of reasonably-priced diesel has given you a funny turn – how about some Dry Fly Sherry which featured prominently in issues in the 1950s?
Or were you the proud owner of a John Deere 430, 530 or 630 European combine?
She is much more modestly dressed than we remember – an Abertay Girl from a 1988 issue of Farmers Weekly?
