Photo of the Week: Braving the snow drifts in Aberdeenshire

Our Photo of the Week this week shows Stuart Gauld snow ploughing in Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire.

Emma Gauld sent in the photo, braving the deep snow to get the perfect shot. The snow drifts are up to 1.8m deep in some places – something not seen since the 1980s.

Stuart and Emma live with their three young boys on the mixed farm, growing cereals and finishing beef cattle, lambs and lambing ewes.

While the snow can make for some magical photos, it creates very difficult conditions on farm.

Emma says: “It’s been a challenging few days for our family trying to keep our livestock fed, defrosting water troughs and also finding the time to keep roads open, and people safe, during the heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions.”
