Photo of the Week: Good day for spraying T1 winter wheat
The weather has been kind for farmers spraying their cereal crops this year, as this photo – taken towards the end of April – shows.
The scene was captured by Peter Spibey while he was spraying T1 Graham winter wheat with fungicide growth regulator and herbicide.
Peter works on the family farm – Ambaston Grange Farm in Derby – alongside his dad, Stewart.
They do all the physical work on the farm, and mum Mary works in the farm office.

They farm 600 acres of arable and grass with 200 head of cattle bought in as calves and sold as fat.
In addition to the wheat, the farm grows oilseed rape, barley, beans and oats.
Peter has worked on the farm since he left school at 16 and passed his spraying certificates in 2006 – so no need to call the contractors in.
Not only is the weather great, but we think the composition of this photo shows that Peter has an artistic streak alongside his spraying talents.
