Photo of the Week: Northern lights shine on Denbighshire farm

This week was a stargazer’s dream as meteor showers grazed the skies across the UK.

This stunning shot was captured by Ruth Davies, a keen amateur photographer who lives on a hill farm near Ruthin, Denbighshire.

Ruth said: “I asked Aaron if I could use his tractor as my model for the night and it [the tractor] was very obliging.

“Just me, camera, beef cattle and tractor all alone up a field overlooking the Vale of Clwyd. I rolled into bed at 5.30am and I’m still recovering!”

Ruth’s husband Aaron and his brother Rhodri were dairying for many years but ceased around 15 years back, changing direction.

They now rent out the fields to a local farmer and tend to the overwintered cattle and have a snow-ploughing contract to keep the roads clear of snow during the winter months.

Ruth says the little David Brown, which is used as their scraper tractor, still works perfectly.

“It’s one of Aaron’s favourites; however, his Case ‘Magnum’ comes [in at] a close second.”
