Photo of the Week: Maverick the lamb up to mischief
This week’s Photo of the Week is of Maverick, a Valais Blacknose cross Greyface Dartmoor wether lamb, taken by Kate Ockwell.
It shows the mischievous lamb in the muck trailer, having climbed the ramp.
He’s quite a character and is destined to be a companion for a ram if he ever stops escaping.

Kate says: “I turned up to our smallholding to bring the sheep and horses in, and discovered ‘squidy’ as we have nicknamed him in the muck trailer…
“Nothing stops him, he literally does want he wants, when he wants – and if you can imagine a naughty child at the back of the classroom throwing paper planes, then that would be him all over!”
Looking on are the three registered ewes, Kiki, Kiara and Kumi, who Kate says “will do anything for a rich tea biscuit” and the two bottle-raised twins, Ernie and Hector.
Despite working a full-time office job, Kate and and her partner also have a 4.5 acre smallholding in Wimborne, Dorset, where they keep their small flock of Valais Blacknose sheep.
“There is never a dull moment. The only thing I would change is if we could expand and turn it into a full-time thing,” says Kate.
We certainly wish her well with that aspiration.
