Photo of the Week: Snow is no match for Shetland ewe

Heavy snow in Aberdeenshire has seen farmers out clearing snow, schools closing and the council declaring a major incident.

The weather is no laughing matter for farmers battling the snow to get feed to livestock… but try telling this Shetland ewe.

She seems oblivious to the conditions around her as she poses for this snap sent in by Alex Ralston of Demalfie Livestock in Aberdeenshire.

Alex says: “We have had some of the worst snowfall in a number of years here in Aberdeenshire. [The picture] shows how resilient sheep are in horrendous weather conditions… she’s also a very pretty lady.”

This ewe, eight year’s old and still going strong, is the only Shetland in a mixed flock of Texel, Cheviot and Suffolk sheep, and we agree, a very pretty lady.
