Flindt climate change column sparks debate

Charlie Flindt’s column, “Climate change predictions are drying up”, has sparked a big reaction from Farmers Weekly readers.

In the piece, the Hampshire farmer refers sceptically to DEFRA’s drought summit, highlighting how it was only a decade or so ago when a conference was held at the Royal Society about flood risk, which concluded: winters will get wetter.

Charlie said: “My question is this: Would anyone at this urgent DEFRA drought summit agree that all these predictions were about as good as my tips as to who will win the Eurovision Song Contest?”

Fwi user Woodentop commented: “Excellent stuff – DEFRA, like the rest of the greenies, like to have all bases covered so that when anything happens they can point to the appropriate prediction as proof of their perspicacity.”

FWi user Gixxerboy said: “Very amusing and very true, Charlie. Interestingly, the Australian situation is precisely the opposite way around. Everyone was told the climate was going into a permanent drought and the states embarked on a mad spree of building desalination plants… And the weather this summer? More massive floods.”

AndyB, meanwhile, said: “I agree with you the warmists are running out of steam,”

The piece has since appeared on the Global Warming Policy Foundation website and the Bishop Hill blog for climate change sceptics.
