Farmers Weekly is looking for Britain’s biggest farming pioneer

A special award to celebrate Britain’s farming pioneers from the past 20 years is now open for entries.

Created for the 20th anniversary of our flagship Farmers Weekly Awards, the Game Changers initiative seeks to recognise forward-thinking individuals whose groundbreaking work is changing the face of UK agriculture.

Successful farming relies on a whole host of affiliated industries and organisations.

Together, they help food producers keep the nation fed – including scientists, entrepreneurs, environmentalists, college lecturers and campaigners.

What makes a Game Changer?

Nominees could be actively farming – but they don’t have to be.

What makes them Game Changers isn’t how well they grow crops or raise livestock, it’s how they are spearheading change to drive a more resilient, sustainable sector. Transformative ideas are key.

A Game Changer could be a scientist tackling herbicide resistance or improving herd genetics.

They might be a farmer who has built an innovative piece of kit that’s gone mainstream. Or someone with a revolutionary approach to health and safety.

Perhaps they have created a new market or added value to a commodity in an ingenious way. They could be a standout champion for mental health and wellbeing or an inspirational ambassador for UK farming.

How to nominate

Nominees must be resident in the UK and aged 18 or over. They will be evaluated on how they have helped to improve UK agriculture.

Farmers Weekly will shortlist 10 Game Changers and showcase their achievements over the coming months in the magazine and online.

The 10 Game Changers will then be invited to the Farmers Weekly Awards on 3 October in London.

The overall winner of this exclusive one-off category will be announced on the night. Entries close on 30 June. To nominate someone, go to Game Changers, part of our Awards website, and tell us why they deserve to be recognised.
