FW Photo Competition 2021: ‘Winner of winners’ unveiled

The “winner of winners” in the Farmers Weekly Photography competition 2021 is Angharad Ward, whose picture topped the Livestock category.

Angharad, who lives on Islay in the Inner Hebrides, wins the £250 first prize.

She works in conservation for an environmental charity, but comes from a farming background, so enjoys helping out on the farm managed by her partner, Stuart.

“The cows are used for conservation grazing and are often out along the seaside cliffs which makes for a great backdrop,” she says.

“This picture was taken in the spring, on the way home from the lambing shed. Our Highland cows were right by the road and the setting sun over the sea was too good to ignore.”

Taking overall second place and £150 was agronomist Jack Richardson.

Yellow Labrador Lyla was about 11 months old when Jack grabbed this pet-category winning shot in July while out checking for sugar beet fungicide timings.

Les Fitton’s photo of Pendragon Castle in the Yorkshire Dales led the Landscapes category and took overall third prize of £100.

“I was with my wife looking around the site when I noticed the sheep heading towards the ruins as the weather was turning,” he says.

“I quickly walked towards the gap in the wall which I thought would lead the eye in towards the sheep.”
