New webinar to shine spotlight on domestic abuse

The Women in Agriculture Network is set to explore the challenges faced by victims of domestic abuse and violence against women and girls in rural communities.

Taking place on Friday 28 August at 10am, the webinar will bring together campaigners, support organisations and community leaders to discuss where current legislation falls short and what needs to change.

The event will examine the barriers rural victims face when seeking help, including isolation, access to services, financial dependence, housing and digital connectivity.

It will also consider the additional complexities for farming families, where home, business and family life are often closely intertwined. 

The webinar aims to identify practical solutions and encourage discussion on how government, policing, agricultural organisations and rural communities can better support victims.

Domestic abuse survivor and campaigner Rhianon Bragg says: “Rural domestic abuse presents a very unique challenge for women and children that are compounded by lack of resources and many other complex factors.

“No woman or child should have to face such situations alone and it’s only by putting the spotlight on the shortcomings of policies and resources, as well as old-fashioned attitudes, that we can break the cycle.”
