More than 400 farmers sign up to Open Farm Sunday

More than 400 farms have signed up for this year’s Open Farm Sunday event on Sunday (10 June), making it one of the biggest exercises ever in bringing farmers and the public together.
According to organisers LEAF, 76 farms in the south west are taking part, 71 in the east, 66 in the south east, 57 in the west midlands, 45 in the east midlands, 29 in the north west, 24 in Yorkshire, 14 in Scotland, 11 in the north east and 7 in Wales.
One of the highest-profile host farmers is NFU president Peter Kendall, who will be holding a pre-event tour of his farm on Friday (8 June) at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.
Even if you haven’t been able to organise a farm open day yourself, there’s still time to do your bit.
Have a look through the LEAF list of participating farmers and contact the nearest one to you to see if you can help out. They could well be glad of an extra pair of hands.
And whether you’re a farmer or not, why not go and visit an Open Farm Sunday farm?
To see the list of participating farms, see www.farmsunday.org and click on Find a Farm Near You. Alternatively ring the LEAF office on 024-7641 3911 (open Fri/Sat/Sun 9am-5pm)
We’ll also be featuring a selection of Open Farm Sunday host farms in Farmers Weekly magazine and on www.fwi.co.uk.
If you want your event featured, email brief details and a couple of (ideally high-resolution) photos to david.cousins@rbi.co.uk.
