One dead after Aberdeenshire farm fire

One person has been found dead and another been taken to hospital after fire swept through an Aberdeenshire farm.
The fire broke out at Dumpston Farm, near Peterhead, during the evening of Wednesday 12 December. Firefighters discovered human remains at the site and an 83-year-old man needed hospital treatment for the effects of smoke inhalation.
The fire was intense and caused extensive damage. The single-storey farmhouse was gutted, with just the outside walls left standing.
About 30 firefighters from Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Maud and Aberdeen were called in to tackle the blaze. A Grampian Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We had four fire appliances, one incident support vehicle, one water carrier and a welfare unit in attendance.”
Grampian Police said the cause of the fire remained unknown and an investigation was under way. The police force also called for anyone with information on the fire to contact them on 0845 600 5700.
