Open Farm Sunday – it happens this weekend

On 400 farms across the UK, the final preparations are being made for this year’s Open Farm Sunday event, which takes place this Sunday (1 June)

The event, which is organised by LEAF, is reckoned to be the biggest national farm open day of its type in Europe.

Last year more than a 150,000 visitors came and post-event research showed that members of the public came away with a much more accurate picture of farming than they had before they went.

If you want to visit a farm on Sunday, check out the list of host farms on the LEAF website. And if you’re a host farm yourself, make sure you send a couple of pictures (and a brief description of what’s going on) for our gallery of images from the different events around the country.

You can send them in one of two ways:
(a) Email them to fwpictures@rbi.co.uk or
(b) Upload them at www.fwi.co.uk/ofs2008. You can view them there too.

Finally, the organisers have asked us to say thank you to all the farmers taking part, not to mention the family members, friends, vets, agronomists, wildlife experts and other helpers without whom none of this would be possible.

And in case you’re wondering what the organisers look like, here they are…
