Prof John Nix given Lifetime Achievement Award by NFU

Professor John Nix has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the NFU, as part of its National Farming Awards.
Sir Donald Curry made the announcement during an awards ceremony at the Hurlingham Club, London on Tuesday evening (27 June).
An Emeritus Professor at Wye College Kent, Prof Nix is famous as the author of the Farm Management Pocketbook.
The book, which is now in its 26th edition, has become the standard reference for UK agriculture.
Due to ill health, Prof Nix’s award was collected by Lord Plumb.
Other winners at the awards ceremony were:
Best Farm Retailer – Andrew and Sarah Shufflebotham, Cheerbrook Quality Farm Food Ltd.
Environment – Russell Toothill, Auckley, Doncaster.
Best Food Service Enterprise – Moorsfresh, Pickering Yorkshire.
Innovator of the Year and Newcomer of the Year – Home Harvest Salads, Hull.
Collaboration of the Year (Two winners) – 7Y Holdings, British Asparagus Group.
Regional Food Producer of the Year – Trioni Limited.
In his opening speech, NFU president Peter Kendall said that he thought the era of cheap food on world markets was coming to an end.
“I am convinced rising world population, growing wealth in India and China, the prospect of climate change reducing production in some parts of the world and the huge increases we are seeing in renewable energy production from the land will combine to draw the curtain on an era of cheap world food.
“I am also convinced production agriculture will be more and more important to this country.”
