Students – win a fantastic makeover

I can clearly remember what I was wearing on my first day at the Royal Agricultural College over 15 years ago.
For some reason I’d decided to team a red checked and padded lumberjack-style shirt with blue jeans and dealer boots the colour of calf scour. The hair was a floppy mess, although I suppose, at least, I still had some then. Perhaps I thought it was a pretty cool student look. With hindsight, it wasn’t – put simply I was a fashion disaster.
The good news was that very few of my fellow agricultural students had much more dress sense than me – I had basically swapped one fashion desert for another. I’m not sure things have improved much since then, so it’s lucky that the Farmers Weekly fashion team is here to help.
We’re offering you or a friend the chance to win a fashion makeover in this competition for college or uni students.
In the past few years, with the help of ace snipper Victor Pajak and stylist-to-the-stars Bernard Connolly (pictured with three of our previous winners) we’ve transformed grimy farming guys into dashing model-like dandies and turned slightly scruffy, straw-in-hair farming ladies into drop-dead gorgeous glamour pusses.
Now it’s the turn of college students to receive the top-to-toe treatment with the emphasis this time very much on glamour. The Christmas party season is not that far away so this could be the ideal time for you.
On December 4 we’ll be giving the competition’s three lucky finalists a day out in London and showing them how to make the fashion faux pas a thing of the past.
They’ll find out just how good they can look at a ball with designer outfits and cutting-edge hair styles to turn their friends green with envy. (You won’t get to keep the clothes, sadly, but you will go home with the new hairstyle – and the fashion tips will last you a lifetime!) It’s fantastic prize and all it takes is an email to enter.
THE PRIZE
We’ll whisk you to London (well, pay for your train ticket at least) where award-winning hairdresser Victor Pajak will cut, colour and style your wayward locks into a dazzling barnet that would usually cost hundreds of pounds to create.
Stylist Bernard Connolly, who’s tweaked stars like David Beckham and even royalty, will then work his magic dressing you in designer labels worth thousands of pounds. A top make-up artist will provide the finishing touches before the photoshoot where FW’s top snapper Jonathan Page will immortalise your transformation. You’ll also get a slap-up lunch and pictures of the day.
HOW TO ENTER
Simply email a photograph of yourself or the friend you would like to nominate in the throes of a fashion disaster to tim.relf@rbi.co.uk and add a few lines about why you or they need the makeover.
You can also post your entry (sorry, but we can’t return entries) to Tim Relf at Farmers Weekly, The Quadrant, Sutton, Surrey, SM2 5AS.
The competition is open to all students, male or female, studying at an agricultural college or agricultural department of a university in the UK.
We’ll publish the photos we receive as nominations in a gallery.
Entrants must be available to come to a venue in or near London on December 4 and the closing date is Tuesday 20 November. Don’t forget to include contact details including a phone number.
WIN A PRIZE MERELY BY ENTERING
Our friends at Musto have agreed to provide a super technical wool jacket for each of the three winners to keep (suggested retail price £130).
Anyone who nominates will go into a draw – the first name pulled out will also one of these lovely jackets (they come in men and women’s sizes and colours). You may receive marketing material from Musto.
