The Apprentice star Nick Hewer to host The Farm Fixer

The Apprentice and Countdown star Nick Hewer is swapping the boardroom for the combine harvester to host a new TV series which aims to help struggling farmers.

Mr Hewer will help struggling farmers turn their businesses around in these hard economic times in new BBC2 series The Farm Fixer.

Lord Sugar’s sidekick will be hoping to use his expertise and fix it for five family farms experiencing problems.

“The small family farm is the backbone of the UK countryside,” he said.

“I wanted to use everything I had learnt, over the past 40 years of business, to help them come through this difficult time.”

In the first programme of the week-long teatime series, starting 9 July, Mr Hewer visits Northern Ireland where many small farms have been passed down from one generation to the next.

He will work with farmers to assist them in developing new products, brands and find new customers.

Some of his diverse business ideas include harvesting seaweed, brewing beer, producing flavoured pet water and entertaining tourists.

Mr Hewer has vowed to keep his business mantra “doing nothing is not an option” throughout the series.
