Two farmers dead in separate accidents

Two farmers have died within days of each other in separate farm accidents.

Alan Latham, 78, was found dead on Tuesday, 23 July at Wild’s Farm, Hilcott, Pewsey, Wiltshire.

Mr Latham had apparently been crushed between a tractor and trailer.

A Great Western Ambulance service spokesman said: “We received a call at 7.59am on 23 July and arrived on the scene to find a male patient trapped between a tractor and a trailer, but sadly he was dead before we arrived.”

The second death was in Northern Ireland on Thursday, 25 July.

Henry Allen, 70, who farmed near Moneymore, County Derry, is believed to have fallen from a silo wall.

Investigations into both incidents are under way.

The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland, which is leading the County Derry inquiry, confirmed: “HSENI is currently investigating the death of a 70-year-old farmer on a County Londonderry farm.

“Our deepest sympathies are with the family at this most difficult time.”
