Winter sheep scene wins ‘Best of Welsh Farming’ photo comp

A wintery sheep farming scene from Radnorshire has won “Best of Welsh Farming” in this year’s NFU Cymru photo competition.
More than 200 photos were submitted, but judges were particularly impressed with the entry from Colin Evans, who farms in the Elan valley, which shows sheep being fed on a cold winter’s day.
NFU Cymru president and competition judge Aled Jones says:
“The winning photo is a common scene on Welsh farms in early spring. Grass is sparse, sheep hungry, lambs growing and the farmer is at their wits’ end.”

The everlasting message, Mr Jones adds, is that the seasons will never fail: “The cold will pass, the farmer’s toil will be rewarded with a harvest of lambs to sell come summer or autumn.”
The final 16 photos are being displayed at this year’s Royal Welsh Show at the union stand.
