Prizes up for grabs in FW’s kids’ writing competition

Lockdown means even farm children – who are usually great at keeping busy – can be getting bored.

Not being able to see friends and having to spend more time indoors can be frustrating for even the most self-reliant and imaginative kids, so we’re launching a writing competition to help channel some of our youngsters’ energy at this difficult time.

It will allow anyone aged 16 and under to showcase their creative side and there are some great prizes on offer.

The winners in each of the three age categories will receive £50, along with a goody bag from competition sponsor, Isuzu.

All you’ve got to do is write a short story about your favourite day on the farm.

What you write about is up to you. It can be entirely factual or totally fictional, funny or serious, and it might make us laugh or it make us cry.

Entering is really simple – just go to the farm kids writing competition page and give us a few brief details about yourself (obviously, mums and dads can enter this for younger children) and upload your entry.

All the entries will be visible online, so even those people who don’t want to enter can enjoy browsing some of the entries.

The deadline for entering is 24 May 2020.

The entries will be judged by the Farmers Weekly team and the winners will be contacted by email.

We’ll publish the winning three entries in Farmers Weekly, so entering might mean you get to see your words in your favourite farming title, too.

How to enter

• Ages 4-7: Write up to 200 words
• Ages 8-11: Write up to 500 words
• Ages 12-16: Write up to 500 words
