Freelance sub-editor, Farmers Weekly

Pages of Farmers Weekly

Farmers Weekly is looking for a freelance layout sub-editor, who’s also familiar with handling web articles, to support the production team during busy periods and holiday cover.

Shifts can usually be booked in advance to accommodate other freelance commitments that you may have.

However, it would be an advantage if you can be available on an ad-hoc, last-minute basis too.

There is a lot of variety, which would suit a multi-skilled production journalist with a newspaper/magazine background who is used to a fast-paced environment and enjoys working across different platforms.

Apart from being a brilliant sub-editor with a track record of handling technical content, you will need to have solid print layout experience using InDesign, at least basic Photoshop skills, and ideally have used WordPress or other CMS and be familiar with optimising content for SEO.

Production desk duties involve:

  • Subbing copy in line with house style
  • Processing web articles
  • Processing images for web and/or print
  • Laying out pages for print
  • Managing proofs through the approval process
  • Finalising proofs for printer

Farmers Weekly’s offices are in Sutton, Surrey.

Freelance day rate is £160.
