Bernard Matthews expands turkey production

A Bernard Matthews plant in Norfolk will be expanding production to supply 1000t of turkey meat into the continental market as part of a new £4m deal.

The Holton plant will help a Bernard Matthews sister plant in Oldenburg, Germany, fulfil the order for marinated turkey steaks for the summer BBQ market.

A senior company spokesman commented: “To satisfy very demanding German retailers, our farms and factory at Holton had to pass stringent quality audits, which they did with flying colours. We are therefore well-positioned to guarantee the supply of fresh turkey meat, and to compete effectively with other European producers.

“We had to undergo a strict audit from the German companies to achieve the QS Test Mark – a consumer protection kitemark that tracks every element of the process from farm to fork.”
