How far does a typical hen walk in a day?

Next week is British Egg Week and to highlight the event, one specialist egg producer has measured how far its hens walk in a day.

The experiment was carried out by Chris Brenton, farm manager at Clarence Court by attaching a tiny counter to the hen’s leg and monitoring the results over a 16 hour period.

Lisa Rowe, clarence court director said: “I am amazed at the results of this experiment. It seems like an enormous effort for a single egg but it definitely gives ‘food miles’ a new meaning.”
