£300 a head for champion Mule gimmers at Carlisle

Ther annual Latter Fair Mule Gimmer Lambs show and sale at Carlisle saw 5,000 Mule gimmer lambs forward for judge Brian Davidson of West View, Penruddock and Mike Allen of Borrowby Grange, Whitby. w

After much deliberation the championship rosette was awarded to Messrs JW Smith-Jackson of Hightown, Haltwhistle for his top pen of 10 lambs. The champions later went on to attain the days top price of £300 a head.

The second prize pen was a consignment from Messrs F and M Moore and Sons of Highside Farm, which later went on to sell for £180 a piece.

Outwith the show, the sale was considered a huge success with an overall average of £103.76 being recorded. (NEMSA lambs £108.74, Non NEMSA lambs £99.38).

Best tupping lambs regularly achieved between £115-£130 with many above and beyond these figures.
