5,000gns top for Sedgemoor collective dairy sale
Top pedigree dairy stock were in strong demand at Sedgemoor’s Autumn Gold Sale, with 26 milkers over £2,000 and heifers selling to 5,000gns, bulls to 2,000gns and heifer calves to 1,000gns twice.
The collective sale topped at 5,000gns for Holmead Merlin Socks VG-2yr from Terry Cox and family. She was the last daughter of Mapleigh Juror Socks Ex95, whose ribbons include the 2012 Genus Lifetime award. She sold freshly calved to SJ Stevens from the Mendips, Somerset.
At 3,800gns was Kev Rickard’s Shottle Windbrook Sheen VG87-2yr, who was recently crowned champion heifer at the Welsh Dairy Show. She travels back in to Wales to the Duthie family, Newport.
At 2,350gns was another calved heifer from Terry Cox, a member of the Roxy Family. Regular consignors Roland and Simon Bugler from the Bettiscombe herd saw their 16 cows and heifers average over £2,000 to a top of 2,200gns. Other heifers to reach and exceed 2,000gns came from AJ Bennett and Sons, RK and SG Miller and Sons and CJ and SE Elmes.
Cows sold to 2,100gns for PJ Andrews Beneknowle Vanguard Judy, with others over 2,000gns from K Rickard and RE and HE Bugler and Partners.
Bulls sold to 2,000gns for Moorshard Skyward, by Dude and out of the Glen-Drummond Shower family selling to local farmer, Colin Petheram.
A consignment of pedigree Jersey cattle from SE Lane and Partners of Kent topped at 1,420gns for the heifer Hareplain Legacy Orange to average £1,356.
A large consignment of 68 in-calf heifers topped at 1,560gns for R and M Parkers Grangemore Shottle Polly. Thirty five Dutch bred in-calf heifers from first time vendors Calf Company (Europe), sold to 1,430gns. Bulling heifers from Sampfordel sold to 840gns.
Twin red and white heifer calves from Eric Puddy’s Marcroft herd and from the Glen-Drummond Shower Family sold for 1,000gns each.
Dry cows, due November to February from DAR Williams, Sussex sold to 1,400gns and a late entry of 35 spring calving cows from Sutton Hall Farms, East Sussex, sold to 960gns.
Averages: 39 calved heifers, £2,077; 9 calved cows, £2,000; 7 freshly calved jerseys, £1,356; 63 in-calf heifers, £1,245; five bulling heifers, £831; five heifer calves, £609.
