9,500gns Wilodge Joskins leads Brecon Limousin sale
The youngest bull in the catalogue, Wilodge Joskins, from Wilodge Limousins, Lodge Hill Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal, made 9,500gns and led a strong trade at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s May Sale held at Brecon Market on Saturday 9 May.
Wilodge Joskins, born in January 2014, is by Wilodge Vantastic and out of Hazelhead Annie making him a full brother to the noted Wilodge Fastrac. Having won the pre-sale show overall champion under judge Vince Corbett, from the Temeside herd, he was purchased by the AI Company Dovea based in Co Tipperary, Republic of Ireland.
Next best at 7,000gns was Garyvaughan Italy from CV Lewis, Garth Vaughan, Welshpool, Powys. This first-prize October 2013 bull is by Garnedd Gower and out of the homebred Garyvaughan Cherry, a Nouvelle Prospect daughter. This bull was bought by A Thomas, Knighton, Powys.
From the same herd, Garyvaughan Idle also made 7,000gns when selling to M Labbett, Knighton, Hereford. This August 2013 born bull is by the herd’s noted stock bull Plumtree Deus and is out of the homebred Garyvaughan Daffodil, another Nouvelle Prospect daughter.
The reserve champion rosette went to another young bull, Dyfri Icon, from Messrs DG and MJ Edwards, Cilycwm, Llandovery. He made 6,100gns when selling to JK Morgan, Sennybridge, Brecon, Powys. By Plumtree Deus, the December 2013 born Icon is out of the Jockey daughter Dyfri Afallon, the dam of the 10,000gns Dyfri Fioled.
Two bulls from Messrs EW Quick and Sons, Crediton, Devon made 5,400gns and 5,000gns. At 5,400gns was the June 2013 born Loosebeare Integrity who was the day’s senior champion. By the herd’s stock bull, Aghadolgan Emperor, he is out of Loosebeare Tara and was purchased by DR Pugh, Llangorse, Brecon.
The next, Loosebeare Insult, made 5,000gns when selling to KJ Jones, Narberth, Pembrokeshire. This bull is by the Vantastic son Loosebeare Fantastic and is out of the Rainbow Simon daughter Loosebeare Cabeauty. The Quicks also sold Loosebeare Inspire later in the sale for 4,200gns.
Foxhillfarm Jumpingjackflash from Michael and Melanie Alford, Cullompton, Devon made 5,200gns. This bull, the second youngest in the catalogue, sold to Wiltshire College, Chippenham, Wiltshire. Foxhillfarm Jumpingjackflash, January 2014 born, is by Loosebeare Fantastic and is out the prolific 15,000gns Bankdale Alice who has bred three Carlisle champions.
From a small show of females, the Alford’s rising five year old, Sarkley Fadajen, made the female top price of 4,350gns. Bred by Messrs Pennie, Sarkley Fadajen is by Sarkley Thunderbolt and is out of Sarkley Adajen, a Haltcliffe Ullswater daughter. Purchasing this female, who was pd’d in-calf to Aghadolgan Emperor, was AE Neachell and Son, Aldridge, Staffs.
