Australian Blonde catches breeders’ eyes
A brace of Blonde breeders have been splashing the cash down under buying a September 2009-born heifer for flushing at a recent Australian production sale.
Northern Irish-based William McElroy of Ivaniskey Blondes teamed up with Sheena Kennedy of the Overton herd to pay Aus$7000 for Old Kentucky El Grace from Bob Andrews’ Londrigan, Victoria-based herd.
This heifer is by Bred to Hustle and out of Rahnik Afaloozy and has EBVs which place her in the top 2% of the breed in Australia. The Old Kentucky herd has a relatively short history, having been established just 18 months ago, but already it is proving to be a well placed one, with the sale recording an 85% clearance with bulls averaging $3250 and the females $4691.
El Grace will now be flushed to a number of leading sires, with the resulting embryos shipped to the UK for implantation.
