Aberdeen Angus trade hits 4,000gns at Carlisle
A selective trade at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, last week (3 October) saw Aberdeen Angus bulls sell to a top of 4,000gns.
Sale leader was the pre-sale reserve champion Retties Piccolo Pete M219 from Richard and Carol Rettie, Clackmannanshire.
This Fell Lane Ploughman J211 son is out of Retties Panache E025, a Blelack Blacksmith Y0291 daughter. With a SRI of +36, this one was reserve male champion at the Society’s inaugural junior championships held in conjunction with the Livestock Event in July. Buyer was F and A L Kenyon, Southwick, Dumfries.
Next best when selling at 3,800gns was the first prize Netherton Kingdom N732 from the McLaren family, Blackford, Perthshire.
By the previous herd sire Netherton Big Edition H460, he’s out of The Moss Mr Eshton D409 daughter Netherton Karama K584, who is maternal sister to the herd’s 2014 five-times champion show cow Karama K574. He also carries a SRI of +47 and TSI of +38. This one was knocked down to I and A Fisher, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire.
Meanwhile, the pre-sale overall champion – tapped out by judge Albert Taylor, Kirriemuir, – Temple El Nino N547 from Andrew and Judith Denning and Family traded at 3,200gns, when selling to R J Morton and Co, Thornhill, Dumfriesshire.
By Rawburn Lord Ross C216, this one is out of the Rawburn Transformer daughter Mosston Muir Eline H205. This one was reserve male champion at the Royal Welsh earlier this year.
Then at 3,100gns was Bryan Ronan, Appleby, with his third prize bull Jerusalem Porthos N262. By Rawburn Double Oseven J985, he’s out of the Jerusalem Lord Hermes D080 daughter Jerusalem Pride H147. With a SRI of +42 and a TSI of +33, he sold to R McCall, Dalbeattie.
Two bulls then shared a 3,000gns price tag.
The first was the next lot from the McLaren family, in the form of Netherton Masterpiece N733. Again by Big Edition, this one is out of The Moss Mr Eshton D409 daughter Netherton Missie K556. This second prize bull from the Summer National Show heads to Forgelands Estates, Lancaster.
The next at that figure was Martin McCornick, Newton Stewart, with the third prize Mccornick Kickstart N915. By Rawburn Edge J983, he’s out of Mccornick Kim K521, a Netherton Mr American E370 daughter. This one found a new home with Colby Farms Ltd, Appleby-in-Westmorland.
